The Buttery is the name of Newnham’s cafeteria, which serves food Monday to Saturday (aside from a few days’ closure during Christmas and Easter). On the hot counter there is: a meat option, a fish/seafood option, a vegetarian option and a vegan option. The Buttery also has a salad bar, desserts, a drinks and cold food fridge and even a coffee machine so all diets can be catered for. The staff are lovely and update the Buttery Menus website daily with the menus for that day. All menus are labelled with allergy information.
The Buttery has many cafe-style tables for eating and studying at as well as a few comfy sofas at one end for groups. During the summer it is a common sight seeing students taking trays of lunch outside to the gardens too!
Currently, students pre-pay a certain amount of money to spend in the Buttery. The great thing about Newnham is that we have both the Buttery and really good kitchens, so you can either cook for yourself or be entirely catered for, depending on your mood, schedule and cooking abilities! You are always welcome to bring your own food down to the buttery to meet up with friends.
